Who Needs to Relax?

Stress is everywhere in our society. Research by YouGov in 2018 showed that 74% of adults in Britain had felt overwhelmed or unable to cope at some point in the past year.

While anyone can feel stressed, there are particular groups that are more likely to experience it, and who therefore can most benefit from a Relaxation Massage in Whitchurch. These include:

  • Perimenopausal and menopausal women who experience an increase in cortisol (the stress hormone) levels as oestrogen levels fall

  • Young people aged 16-24 (25% feel anxious every day)

  • Those with a stressful job. In 2019, 12.8 million workdays were lost due to work-related stress, anxiety or depression, according to HSE figures.

  • Anyone going through a life transition, such as retirement, marriage, divorce, a house move, birth of a child or bereavement.

Why do we need to relax?

While not everybody will feel chronically stressed, in a physical sense everyone’s body needs to relax. To allow our body to renew and repair itself, we need to be in the resting state of our nervous system, otherwise known as the relaxation response.

This happens naturally when we sleep, unless we are too anxious even in sleep to fully let go into it. It is one reason why it can be so devastating to health and wellbeing when we don’t get good quality sleep. We need to spend time in this state every day to stay healthy. Relaxation Massage is one way to access this natural state of relaxation.
